Meet Phil
LDC Driving Instructor Phil

I joined LDC after careful consideration and plenty of research into the different training organisations available. The reason I joined LDC was for the high quality of training and the future prospects offered. The LDC system for Driving Instructor Training surpassed all other organisations without exception. Not only did LDC offer reasonable Franchise fees, they also offered a well planned, and structured Training syllabus for both the Potential Driving Instructor and learner drivers. The system for each is both thorough and simple to follow.

LDC has been the ideal way to start my own business and I would definitely recommend them to anybody looking at becoming a Driving Instructor.

Meet Cath

When I began to think about starting a family I realised that a Monday to Friday 9-5 office job wasn't the best option when it came to childcare (and I was bored with being stuck in an office as well!) so started looking into changing career - something with more flexible hours was what I wanted. That's when I came across being a driving instructor and training with LDC was my best move.

Training to be a driving instructor is hard work (I nearly had a heart attack when the training box turned up - it was huge!) but the LDC package is done in a way that makes it fun! I remember reading some of the theory notes and the way it's written there are comments in that are exactly the thoughts that go through your mind - I lost count of the number of times I burst out laughing because it was "so true". The part 2 and 3 training was great too. I'll never forget some of the examples of possible pupil behaviour that my trainer Les came up with - "dodge the kangaroos" was the best!!

The support both during the training and once you've qualified is fabulous - the induction course has loads of information to take in but you'll have a great laugh with some of Bob's stories! Everyone is so friendly and helpful - you feel like part of the family. Even though your running your own business, you don't feel as if you're on your own at all so you have the best of both worlds.

Now I've given my first few lessons, being a driving instructor is even better than I though it would be. I wish I'd done it sooner.

I wanted a career change that would be flexible and manageable. This also needed to be applied to the training I would receive. After a lot of researching and talking to "real" LDC instructors and trainers I chose to train with LDC and have achieved my goal in becoming a driving instructor. More importantly I am still able to get advice and help from LDC.

Cost of training

Why do I have to pay for the training?
Because of the freedom and flexibility with which they work, driving instructors are entitled to the status of self-employment with all the tax advantages that it confers. As a result, all driving instructors in the UK, regardless of which driving school they work for are self-employed. As such, in order to enjoy these benefits, you must pay for the goods and services that are essential to do your job (and indeed to start your job) yourself. Thus, it is standard practice in the industry to meet the cost of your own training.

However, when the costs of becoming a driving instructor are viewed in relation to your future earnings, this investment is very small and quickly returned. We believe that no one can match us on quality and certainly no one can match the value for money that we offer.

Quality training at the lowest overall cost
The LDC driving instructor training course is subsidised by our driving school because we know with each trainee recruited we are likely to have a happy LDC driving instructor for many years to come. As a result we charge up to a £1,000 less for our driving instructor training course despite offering up to twice the amount of in car training and certainly the very best materials and support in the business.

Off-set course price only £875
The full cash price of the course is £2,495 but if you decide to join and rent a car from us after qualifying we offer you cash back (£612) and savings (£892) a total of over £1,500. Thus if you were to off-set this figure from the course fee you could view the training charge as only being £875. And best of all you receive these benefits immediately upon joining - not spread over several months after paying several months franchise fees or clawed back if you don't stay a minimum of 12 months as with some other national driving schools offering similar incentives. Alternatively, you can pay-as-you-learn from as little as £595 followed by 12 equal monthly payments. You can even defer payment until after you have potentially qualified (subject to status). Thus with LDC becoming a driving instructor is almost within anyone's reach.

DSA examination and registration fees
Please note you will also need to pay examination fees to the DSA as you take each part of the exam. The Part 1 test fee is £90, Part 2 test fee is £111 and Part 3 test fee is £111. Finally once qualified the DSA charge a registration fee of £300 which has to be paid every 3 years to remain on the DSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) register.
